So I received my visa issuance confirmation number this morning! That means that I can now apply for my visa. Things are really moving along. It’s difficult sorting through all of the information and requirements so I’m trying very hard to not get too overwhelmed. Happily, there have been people I’ve been in touch with who have done this already so I’m able to solicit their advice. My recruiter sent me a list of information for things I would need to apply, but said that I ultimately need to make sure that I check with my local consulate as different consulates may have different requirements. That has been a task in and of itself as the consulate’s website doesn’t seem to be particularly straightforward and when you email them questions, they send you links to their website.

My face when I receive an email that points me back to the same website that confused me in the first place

I feel like this year, applying for the visa might be a bit more cumbersome than usual. With COVID, everything seems to have a bit of an extra hurdle. I quickly realized that I can’t just drive over to the consulate and drop off my documents, I have to make an appointment (although I’m not sure if it’s always like that). To circumvent that (I heard it’s difficult to get an appointment), I will just FedEx overnight everything to a place that’s not even 20 miles away  😐. Then along with my visa application (the visa application that states I have an issuance confirmation number), I have to get a doctor’s note state that I have no COVID symptoms and that doctor’s note has to be issued within 48 hours of the consulate receiving my documents. Another obstacle I’m facing personally is that I’m moving out of my place this week and heading back to my parents’ house in Kansas this Sunday for a month.

There is a whoooooooole lot going on. I don’t feel like I’ll be able to full relax from all of this madness until I’m actually in Seoul.
